Brunnen is most dramatically located, between mountains and the mystical fjord of the Lake of Uri.
The holiday resort Brunnen is situated attractively and centrally in the heart of Switzerland, between the mountains Urmiberg and Fronalpstock and directly on the shore of the Lake of Lucerne. A round trip on the Lake of Uri (finger of Lake of Lucerne) on one of the historical paddle steamers makes your stay in Brunnen just perfect. On that trip you can stop at the Rütli, the birth place of the Swiss nation, or at the Tellsplatte, one of the well known places from the famous legend by Friedrich Schiller. You can also get very unique memories walking on the Swiss Path, a hiking trail of 35 km that was built in 1991 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Switzerland. This trail is divided into the 26 cantons and a fraction of 5 mm belongs to each Swiss citizen. Exiting experiences along the Lake of Uri and through the homeland of William Tell are guaranteed. Other highlights are the funicular up to mount Urmiberg or walking on the Cultural Path as well as strolling on the lakeside with the many coffee shops. Trips up to the nearby mountains like Fronalpstock or Rigi are always worth while and promise many diverse hikes, always with the great Lake of Lucerne in sight. Aquatic athletes as well as mountain bikers will find the environment of Brunnen to be a true paradise for their favourite sport.
Also in winter Brunnen and its surrounding have much to offer. In just a little time you can reach the ski areas of Stoos-Fronalpstock, Mythenregion, Sattel-Hochstuckli, Rigi, Hoch-Ybrig, Andermatt-Gemsstock oder Klewenalp-Stockhütte. In February Brunnen is one of the main carnival places in Central Switzerland.
